We provide brands with sustainable solutions they can trust

Overview

In June 2021 the Government of Ontario announced changes to update and modernize its Blue Box Program, ushering in a new wave of full Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in Canada. Under the new regulatory regime, producers of designated products and packaging in Ontario will now be operationally and financially responsible for collection, sorting, and resource recovery of residential recyclable materials province-wide. This paves the way for RRA – a producer responsibility organization (PRO) that combines GFL’s extensive international footprint and depth of experience in North America’s resource recovery sector with leadership in compliance and administration of recycling programs across Canada, gained through the work of CSSA, now RRA Services.

What We Do

RRA is a comprehensive resource recovery and compliance solution for producers, first in Ontario and ultimately across North America, augmenting GFL’s existing and extensive capabilities in sorting, processing, marketing, and reporting of Blue Box material across North America and leveraging RRA Services' (formerly CSSA) leadership in compliance and administration.

GFL is a trusted “one-stop shop” for municipalities, institutional, commercial, and industrial customers, providing stable and consistent collection and processing services, and sustainable environmental solutions, through its depth of experience across Ontario and North America. RRA Services is the largest and most experienced “one-stop shop” compliance solutions provider for EPR programs in North America. Together, we offer the full suite of services and sustainable solutions that producers need, and more importantly, can trust.

The Benefits of RRA

RRA provides producers crucial benefits that can only be garnered with a proven, reliable, and experienced environmental services partner, including:

  • Producer Partnerships: The Producers' Alliance Council (the Council) gives producers the opportunity for direct input into RRA’s decision-making process. RRA works with the Council to identify service priorities, define the scope of operations, monitor results, and meet the new and ambitious recovery targets designated by the Government of Ontario.
  • Unparalleled Experience: RRA combines GFL’s national footprint, their ‘boots on the ground’ understanding, and operational scale in the environmental services sector with leadership in the compliance/administration sector, gained as CSSA, to offer a consolidated PRO with proven experience that is unique and unparalleled in the market.
  • Technologically-Advanced Logistics Services: GFL has experienced GIS (Geographical Information System) and Routing Teams using dynamic data mining and analysis tools to provide cost- and time-efficient services for customers. Our teams use ERSI, the leading GIS software and data mining tool, Network Analyst, IIT, and Routesmart to model recycling material generation and available processing capacity, calculate optimal travel times and distances for processing capacity and waste type generation, forecast waste industry payload optimization and compliance management, and analyze large complex municipal bids. Our teams can model customer constraints, route times, payloads, disposal sites, and optimal start and end times using desired route costing and operational parameters, and are digitizing large municipal customer routing data, such as current vs proposed route model for cost saving opportunities. This combination of the best talent in the industry and cutting-edge technology allows us to save time on complex calculations, has enabled successful bids for residential curbside collection contracts across North America, and has driven continuous improvement initiatives for the over 900 municipalities it serves.
  • Trusted One-Stop Shop: GFL is a trusted “one-stop shop” for municipalities, institutional, commercial, and industrial customers, providing stable and consistent collection and processing services, sustainable environmental solutions and RRA Services (formerly CSSA) is the largest and most experienced “one-stop shop” compliance solutions provider for EPR programs in North America. Together, offer a truly comprehensive PRO partner in RRA, offering the full suite of services and sustainable solutions that producers need, and more importantly, can trust.
  • Cost-Efficient Solutions: RRA does not require upfront costs or a capital investment by producers. Instead, RRA leverages GFL’s existing, scalable network and select partners to provide cost-efficient solutions to producers. GFL has the infrastructure to best capture the quantum of efficiencies, and enhanced program performance, from standardization and regional networks as recycling regimes move away from municipal boundaries and individualized recycling programs.
  • Proven Environmental Outcomes: Producer brands are facing increasingly higher regulatory and customer expectations when it comes to their environmental outcomes. RRA brings together GFL’s technologically- advanced facilities with extensive knowledge on managing waste recovery, gained as CSSA. Together, this experience, expertise, existing infrastructure, and commitment to ongoing innovation helps producers achieve the new targets and demonstrate improved environmental outcomes.
  • Positive Experience for Consumers: RRA can provide the full suite of services to ensure a seamless and smooth transition and reduce any negative impacts to the brand owners.
